Why Women Celebrate Hartalika Teej – Legend of Parvati and Shiva

🌸✨ The Story of Hartalika Teej ✨🌸

Hartalika Teej is one of the most beautiful and meaningful festivals celebrated by women, especially in India and Nepal. It usually falls during the 🌧️ monsoon season, in the month of Bhadrapada (August–September), and is dedicated to 🌺 Goddess Parvati and 🕉️ Lord Shiva.

🌿 The Meaning of Hartalika

The word “Hartalika” comes from two Sanskrit words – “Harat” meaning abduction and “Aalika” meaning a close friend. 🌼
The story behind this festival is deeply connected to Goddess Parvati’s unwavering devotion and determination to marry Lord Shiva. 💕

🪔 The Legend Behind Hartalika Teej

According to legend, 🌺 Goddess Parvati wished to marry Lord Shiva. But her father had promised her to Lord Vishnu. To protect her, a close friend took Parvati into the forest 🌳.

There, Parvati performed deep penance 🙏—fasting and praying with full faith. Pleased with her devotion, Lord Shiva accepted her as his wife 💍.
This sacred union is celebrated every year as Hartalika Teej 🌸.

👭 How Women Celebrate Hartalika Teej

On this auspicious day, women observe a strict Nirjala Vrat (fast without food and water) and pray for:
💖 A happy and prosperous married life
🌿 The well-being of their husbands
🌸 A good life partner (for unmarried women)

They dress in colorful sarees 👗, apply mehndi (henna) ✋, and sing traditional songs 🎶. Idols of Shiva 🕉️ and Parvati 🌺 are worshipped with devotion.
In many regions, women gather together to dance 💃, sing 🎵, and share stories of love and devotion.

🌸 The Essence of Hartalika Teej

Hartalika Teej is more than just a fast; it is a festival of faith, devotion, friendship, and sacrifice 🌹.

It reminds us that:
💞 True love is powerful
🙏 Devotion brings blessings
🌺 Faith can overcome challenges

✨ Just as Goddess Parvati’s prayers were answered, Hartalika Teej inspires women to celebrate love, strength, and the sacred bond of marriage 💍.

🌸🪔 Wishing you all a blessed and joyful Hartalika Teej! 🪔🌸
